Did I mention I have begun training for a marathon?

🙂

I didn’t think so.

One of the coolest classes I found offered here at JMU is a new general education physical fitness class in which you learn about general wellness AND running specific  information while training as a class together to run a MARATHON!

I have never EVER dreamed of even thinking of running a marathon but when I learned about this class and the awesome opportunity…I thought…how could I not?!

The whole class is given set training mileage to do on our own for three days a week.  The fourth run and “long run” day of training we will do together as a class every Saturday morning. Yup…Saturday morning at 8:30 AM…ouf!  No surprises here though…We were all made very clear about what we were getting ourselves into.  I am really excited about having the group support during training and am not sure I would do it without it.

The marathon will be in December down south (where it will be warmer!).  I’ll be sure to keep you posted how the training goes!

Yesterday morning was our first official training day with a 3 mile run to be completed on our own.  Before my classes started, I set out on the treadmill to knock mine out with some speed work.

Here is my 3-mile Quick-n-Dirty Treadmill Workout

*I set my incline to 1.0 … I was already warm but you can start with a few minutes walking to warm up…

If a marathon isn’t in your training future…don’t forget I’ll still be starting a Virtual Training Group to prepare for a 5K around Thanksgiving time!!

What is the biggest event you have ever set your sights to train for?  Any fall races coming up for you?!
